I love engagement sessions, simply because they allow me to have some one-on-one time with my couples before the chaos of the wedding day. We get to hang out, chat about the wedding, and capture some beautiful images along the way. I met up with Lauren + Matt this past fall on a beautiful overcast day for their Charleston engagement session. And, just in case you didn’t know, overcast days are my favorite lighting scenario! Couples often ask why overcast days are my favorite and it’s because the light is being naturally diffused by the clouds, which creates soft, even lighting. This light allows us to really shoot anywhere since we aren’t having to compete with the highlights and shadows caused by sunshine. Overcast light also makes colors pop and everyone’s skin looks SO GOOD!! So if clouds are in the forecast for your engagement session and/or wedding day, never fear! It’s actually a really good thing for you and your photographer!
Lauren + Matt absolutely killed it with their session and their outfits were absolutely on point. I loved watching Matt care for Lauren throughout the session – and the way Lauren looks at Matt? Pure happiness and joy. I know I say this all the time, but my couples truly are the best. I am so so lucky to get to witness and document these amazing love stories year after year! Lauren, Matt, and I had so much fun exploring historic downtown Charleston together and we pretty much had the entire place to ourselves! Another perk of overcast days… it tends to deter the tourists from straying too far from their hotels, leaving the historic district pretty quiet.
These two are getting married this summer out on Kiawah Island and I am already so excited for their beautiful wedding day. I just know it’s going to be so much fun and absolutely gorgeous. Here are a few of my favorites from Lauren + Matt’s Charleston engagement session…

With a well-worn passport in hand, and an affinity for a good cocktail, Dana works with fun-loving and kind-hearted clients around the globe.
Sarah and Jake have been together for ten years. That kind of history shows up in subtle ways – in ease, in trust, in the way two people move through a day without needing to perform. Living in New York City, with Jake’s parents based in Charleston, Planters Inn felt like a natural place for […]

Some wedding days are carefully planned. Others unfold exactly the way they’re meant to. Melissa and Eric originally hired me to photograph their elopement closer to home near Lake Wylie. But when Melissa’s father became ill, everything shifted. Plans were paused, priorities reordered, and space was made for what mattered most. When the time felt […]

There’s something about being near the water that instantly slows everything down. Jordan and Greg were married at the Cottages at Charleston Harbor, and their wedding day unfolded with the kind of ease that can only be felt. An al fresco, tented celebration by the harbor, layered with soft light, movement, and color, it was […]

Sarah + Steven’s wedding day began quietly, in the best way. Beautiful light filtered into the girls’ getting ready suite at The Omni Hilton Head, where Sarah was getting ready – not alone, but alongside two very important people — Steve’s daughters, Lana and Leah. Joined also by her mother and sister, they laughed, helped, […]

This year FLEW by! I feel like I blinked and we’re just 3 days away from the New Year. It’s been a quick one, but it’s also been a great one. Personally, I’ve grown by leaps and bounds. Creatively, I’m rediscovering myself. 2025 was a year for getting back to my roots and undoing some […]

Some couples know exactly what they want. Not because they’ve seen it everywhere, but because it feels true to them. Alyse and Greg were that kind of couple. From our very first phone call, Alyse described her vision in just a few words: romantic, moody, editorial. No big production. No venue. No audience. Just the […]
